Overview

Chudleigh's is a beloved pick-your-own apple farm and café in Milton, Ontario whose growing success was negatively impacting the visitor experience—specifically the check-in process.
After more than 60 years of steadily increasing business, the 120,000 square-foot property needed help keeping up with their growing popularity. The farm had grown beyond seasonal apple picking to include fun summer music nights and special food events, so they were in search of a better way to welcome and track their guests.

Problem

Growing Pains in the Apple Orchard

Chudleigh's was running into a common problem: their entry system just couldn't keep up with how popular they'd become. With regular visitors, season's pass holders, special events, and corporate bookings all coming through their beautiful 20-foot tall archway entrance, things were getting backed up. They couldn't scan tickets quickly, couldn't easily track their sales, and had trouble planning their events and staff schedules—all of which was making things frustrating for both visitors and staff.

Solution

Content Workshop Experiential Studio created a simple but powerful solution: a custom Chudleigh's Check-in App paired with specially designed 3D-printed scanners. They updated the ticket system to give each ticket its own QR code, making check-in smooth and easy. When people bought tickets online, it automatically showed up in the ticketing system through Woocommerce, giving the gate staff everything they needed to welcome visitors quickly while collecting useful information for the business.

To take the visitor experience one step further, the our Experiential Studio designers 3D-printed scanners, branded with Chudleigh's logo and positioned at waist height, specifically designed to create the perfect environment for QR scanning, blocking light from problematic angles and providing a steady scanning platform.

Results

From Bottleneck to Breakthrough

The new system completely changed how Chudleigh's welcomed their guests. They could now smoothly handle everything from seasonal apple pickers to more than 700 visitors for sold-out music nights in one system. The system gave Chudleigh’s clear insights into their daily operations, helping them make better decisions about running the farm. They could now easily set up multiple events at once, including all the important details about tickets and capacity.

Best of all, the farm could now see which events their visitors loved most, spot their biggest fans, know their busiest days, and make smarter choices about staffing and events. This helped them achieve their main goal: making farm life more accessible and fun for everyone who visited.
